We went (independently) to the Bromo, finding a cheap guesthouse, walking 2h to the viewpoint with two French expats (living in Jakarta) to see the sunrise without being stuck with hords of tourists in a 4WD traffic jam.
The view was magnificient. The Bromo and other volcanoes have been formed in the middle of a huge caldera.

The way back from Probbolingo was a very disappointed compilation of (failed) scams, which we will detail later...
